IGF-1 and Chronic Pain
Chronic pain including fibromyalgia like migraine, involves aberrantly increased and persistent brain excitability. Our studies show that treatment with nasal IGF-1 significantly reduces mechanical pain behavior responses after intramuscular acid saline injections in rodent, a preclinical model of fibromyalgia. This is the first evidence that the enrichment mimetic, IGF-1 can target persistent pain.
